So come down and lend a hand!!! haha.....everyone is welcome and needed here!!!!!! Now wat we are doign is sourcing for material and budgeting.......then its goign to be the start of the construction!!! Everyone lets look forward to it!!!!!

Rendered sketchup......

well.....this is an improved version of the sketchup......learn them from our senior yr2, the ex pavilion designers, hahaha, then disheng went to try it out.....hahaha not perfect but....WOW!!! isnt it cool???

AND MORE MODELS!!!!!

well......this is the one i said........not much of a diff from the sketchup..........cos the 10 parts have no texture!!!!!!.......hahahah well we tried to photosop it but end up worse.........but the light and shadow is nice isnt it?? with the colour tentage.........hope everythign goes well!!!!!

MODELS MODELS!!!!

and here are some of the texture we have done.........it might look simple but doing it is.......OH MY GOD!!!.........just these little bit took us one night to do it!!!!!!!! So we really really need a huge number of ppl to make this pavilion happen.....think we are too ambitious le......haha

Proposal done!!!

well....finally its done.......thx to disheng......i must admit he did a wonderful job......haha dun u all agree......well.....let just wait and see how everyting goes.....a small little break be4 more things coming up!!!! haha........enjoy!!!

ASEAN!!!!!

The New ASEAN emblem represents a stable, peaceful, united and dynamic ASEAN. The colours of the emblem -- blue, red, white and yellow -- represent the main colours of the crests of all the ASEAN countries.

The blue represents peace and stability. Red depicts courage and dynamism. White shows purity and yellow symbolises prosperity.

The ten stalks of padi represent the dream of ASEAN's Founding Fathers for an ASEAN comprising all the ten countries in Southeast Asia bound together in friendship and solidarity. The circle represents the unity of ASEAN.

thx to Di sheng....haha even i also dun know abt it.....so tt is y he uses those colours.......thought is random......COOL!!!

one of the 'boxes'.......

heehee.......as u might wonder y i always use 'boxes', cos the shape of the 10 'boxes' will not be so 'box-y', will sure to change. But we will try to constrain it to 3m by 3m......haha....well.... our P1 4hrs sketch (we have to design something in 4 hrs, yr1 pls be prepare!!!!! >_< ) size......since we can do sth out of 3 by 3 in 4 hrs, 10 of it shd not be a prob right??? hahahhaa.......and this is the interior activities of one of the pavilion......an idea contributed by 'Master' Zhongxian, it is to create box out of the postcards so the kids can play with it. Well....wat less can we expect from someone who still collecting Lego now?? haha....and i did these sketch-up till 3+++ in the morning, so a bit 'high' and decide to have a bit if fun.....SOUTH PARK!!......well.....i bet kids will like them and someone did a sketch-up on them, so i might as well use them and make the place look more interesting.....haha enjoy!!!.....more will come up.....

the proposal......

well well well.......this is it!!! The so call final version.......hahaha......going to use this a proposal.....hope this will go through so we can move on......anymore comment??.....can still improve on it.....hahaha......still haven settle how each 'boxes' will go, how the sculpture is going to be done, the structure details, and most important of all the budget!!!! hahaha......stress stress stress but FUN !!!!!!!!!!! wahhahahhah.........come on.........anyone wanna join in the fun??

another version

ok....here we are....another disheng's ideas......an improve version from the last time.....incorporate some colour to lighten up the mood......well.....the place is for kids anyway.....and colour will brighten ppl up......the whole version coming u in a moment!!!

another design after meeting with Jean.....

well....here we are......hope this is the better version......i spent 2 hrs to rush this thing out......combining the ideas we get and some suggestion gave by Jean......the 10 area situated in a way how they are situated in the world map. then the link between each area with more postcards from di sheng's idea. we also have a central area where the top 3 winner of the postcards will be displayed with some sculpture done with postcards.....we are trying to use the postcards to create 10 different tectonic by using postcards, to bring out different spaces, may not be a cube....but this is roughly how it might look like......maybe place to improve on......if u all have any suggestion to improve this.....pls feel free to post....

Site....

OK!!....this is the image of the site from google earth as said......quite a large area.....will upload image if i got the chance....

Further design.....

ok....here we are.....Di sheng came out with another design......open and simple.....but still look like last yr work. hahaha......maybe we shd work on sth enclose instead?? hahaha......While Disheng was doing this, we actually went to look at some work from AA. And we find tt working with modular or having just one shape and we repeat it for the whole facade will be interesting. Then i came out with this crazy wild ideas....... Is it possible to use LEGO to build a whole structure?? It is some thing which attract kids, have a variety of colours to work with.....provide great interaction with the kids......can bring out the theme easily well......i have not try doing it with sketch up or anything....more importantly, we are not sure if we can get sponsor from other company, and also how would the budget work for us........haha maybe if we can create an impressive proposal, they are willing to sponsor? haha for this we still need to discuss with Jean or the person in charge abt it.

Stay tune for Yuting's design.....coming out in a few days time!!!!! tt is all for now......we are still working or many things.......PLS GIVE LOTS OF COMMENTS. WE APPRECIATE ALL COMMENTS......like i said, this is a free and easy project.....feel free to put anything up......thank you!!!

Improved version....or maybe not....haha

ok....this is another of my ideas.....trying to solve the waterproofing by using tent structure. With the ideas of 10 parts still there.....but the design looks very like last yr design.....soooo.....will be changing and work on it too.

Back to wok after some fun....

ok so we are back to serious business after some fooling ard. Marc came to help and we try to think of ways to use the postcards as structure as well. we try ways to make the postcards stand on each other. But then if we use it as structure, one is tt we might have to spoil the cards and we still hve not solve the prob of waterproofing. We are still exploring in this ideas and how it shd work.

Kiddish guy.....

OK!!! This is Shazi!! As many of u might know now tt he is the FOC or Freshman Orientation Camp HEAD!!! Cos he was just nice there to have some FOC stuff to settle, he crash into our discussion and play with the postcards. He was filling the form in and having some fun. The postcard is for kids and he just nice look like a kid. wahahahhaa......see??? told u this is fun!!!!!!

2nd Design.....

ok this is wat i came out with. For this, I am thinking of having sth open. Since the site is at an open field at istana (sorry i dun have the photo, haven done site visit. Even if have dun know if they allow phototaking. will try to get it from google earth), i decide to have sth more open. I also trying to fit the theme of ASEAN, the 10 'platform' is sth to represent each country and the metal bars are representation of the inter-relations we have with each of the 10 countries in ASEAN. My intention was also to let ppl move ard and the circulation of ppl itself will also become the 'bridge' of diff countries linking together.

However, Due to the too openness of it, waterproofing the postcards become a BIG challenge. and also the cost of steel bar, and the ease of construction is some constraint we met. Still working on it......maybe we will have some improvement or better ideas!!!

Initial Design....

ok!! finally to start things off, sorry for the late uploading......been a bit busy with some other things. this is the initial design by di sheng. Since we are have to use soooooooooo many post cards. He decided to come out with a structure and use postcards as the facade and also separation of spaces. This design is something he came out with even be4 we knew how the post cards look like. Impressive from the way Di Sheng do it right??

The Post cards and the design criteria...

haha, silly me.....tok so much i haven upload all the design criteria and requirement. so here it is......take a look and comment!!

this is the pic of the post card.......

Istana Art Event

A pavilion in the Istana, during National Day period, for the Istana Open House, to promote better understanding of our ASEAN neighbours.

Design Brief

- A pavilion incorporating postcards which are numbered between 32,000 to 50,000
- Postcards are sent across ASEAN nations in celebration of ASEAN’s 40th Anniversary.
- Istana officials are quite particular about construction day, hence we should try to make the structure such that the soil in the fields will not be damaged, too much.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants the postcards to be protected to the best of our abilities.
- There will be several better postcards shortlisted, Ms Jean Wee, who gave us this opportunity, suggested that we could do something to these postcards and make them centerpieces. ( Zheqing has brought up similar suggestions)

Dr. Erwin suggested that we organize ourselves properly. He identified a few roles, which he felt would be important.

- treasurer-financial controllers ( work out budget)
- people to keep record of the project

Schedule

- 26 May (SAT) : meet in studio to finalise direction and form
- 28-30 May (MON-WED) : prepare proposal + work out rough budget for Jean’s review
- 31 May/ 1 Jun (FRI) : Send proposal to Jean, via email
- await Jean’s reply
- improvise as necessary.

Ideas

So far there had been numerous ideas that were thrown up during discussions.

- a labyrinth (maze with a single entrance/exit) such that people come out of it with a better understanding of ASEAN
- incorporating a blank canvas of some sort so that visitors on the actual day of the open house will be able to contribute towards the event.
- Capturing the elements of the site, wind and sound
- Zoning of space according to ASEAN nations, each zone will represent an ASEAN nation but at the same time the zones are completely open to the other zones, signifying the interdependent relationships between ASEAN countires.
- A movable structure, such that people will be shaping the pavilion as they move about.
- The client or the person using is mainly children, they are also the one who is filling the card. so the structure is best to attract kids and bring interaction

Just to add on to it, the structure which we are making is going to be displayed at the Shangri La hotel if i not wrong, at dec for some other event. thus it would be good if the construction is kept as simple as possible.

ok here is Yuting, sketching her ideas. See how much fun we have?? haha, see how happy she is can le. Like i said, this is nothing formal, just enjoy the process and learn the experience.

The start yet not the start....

hmmm.....u all might wonder y the title is this. Bcos we have started the project a while ago, ard 2weeks ago but the progress is like nothing, only though of making a blog out of it and keeping a record of it after some time. So here we are, doing this. Right now we only have 2 totally committed personnal doing this. That is Disheng and me. y? maybe bcos we lousy, cant find a job so end up doing this. Believe it or not there is almost 30 plus ppl wanting to do it be4 sch ended and we were wondering how to coordinate the ppl to do the work. End up only us......well....archi ppl all busy ppl. wat can u do? some busy with rag, some went back to their overseas home, some went intern, etc.....but there is always ppl like marc, yuting, lishan, virginia, lennard who came down to help.....and we are always glad if u can come down to help.....tt is also y we are setting up this blog so tt everyone can be updated of wat is going on and give some comment on the design......no need to be formal......if need to be so i wont be here doing this cos typing formal is not my forte. So just enjoy the process and feel free to drop some comment. we are always open to them.....

this is the first photo of the day when FOC or freshman orientation camp is having some meeting and so some ppl came to help....this is pics of yuting and disheng having some discussion abt he pavilion.
