The Post cards and the design criteria...

haha, silly me.....tok so much i haven upload all the design criteria and requirement. so here it is......take a look and comment!!

this is the pic of the post card.......

Istana Art Event

A pavilion in the Istana, during National Day period, for the Istana Open House, to promote better understanding of our ASEAN neighbours.

Design Brief

- A pavilion incorporating postcards which are numbered between 32,000 to 50,000
- Postcards are sent across ASEAN nations in celebration of ASEAN’s 40th Anniversary.
- Istana officials are quite particular about construction day, hence we should try to make the structure such that the soil in the fields will not be damaged, too much.
- Ministry of Foreign Affairs wants the postcards to be protected to the best of our abilities.
- There will be several better postcards shortlisted, Ms Jean Wee, who gave us this opportunity, suggested that we could do something to these postcards and make them centerpieces. ( Zheqing has brought up similar suggestions)

Dr. Erwin suggested that we organize ourselves properly. He identified a few roles, which he felt would be important.

- treasurer-financial controllers ( work out budget)
- people to keep record of the project

Schedule

- 26 May (SAT) : meet in studio to finalise direction and form
- 28-30 May (MON-WED) : prepare proposal + work out rough budget for Jean’s review
- 31 May/ 1 Jun (FRI) : Send proposal to Jean, via email
- await Jean’s reply
- improvise as necessary.

Ideas

So far there had been numerous ideas that were thrown up during discussions.

- a labyrinth (maze with a single entrance/exit) such that people come out of it with a better understanding of ASEAN
- incorporating a blank canvas of some sort so that visitors on the actual day of the open house will be able to contribute towards the event.
- Capturing the elements of the site, wind and sound
- Zoning of space according to ASEAN nations, each zone will represent an ASEAN nation but at the same time the zones are completely open to the other zones, signifying the interdependent relationships between ASEAN countires.
- A movable structure, such that people will be shaping the pavilion as they move about.
- The client or the person using is mainly children, they are also the one who is filling the card. so the structure is best to attract kids and bring interaction

Just to add on to it, the structure which we are making is going to be displayed at the Shangri La hotel if i not wrong, at dec for some other event. thus it would be good if the construction is kept as simple as possible.

ok here is Yuting, sketching her ideas. See how much fun we have?? haha, see how happy she is can le. Like i said, this is nothing formal, just enjoy the process and learn the experience.

The start yet not the start....
